This is the directorial debut of Leigh Whannell. James Wan was unavailable to return as director for the third installment due to his scheduling conflict with Furious 7. Features a new family but still has characters from the first two movies in it; such as Specs. Actors Dermot Mulroney and Ele Keats had worked together in the film There Goes My Baby (1994), which was shot in 1991. Producer Jason Blum had said they were already prepping the early stages for Insidious: Chapter 3 while promoting the second film. This is the first "Insidious" film not to be directed by James Wan.
